Lawrence (Larry) Platt - Dr. Lawrence D. Platt received his medical training at the Wayne State University School of Medicine and Sinai Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He then moved to southern California to complete his Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He remained on the faculty at USC for 14 years and left to be Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Vice Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UCLA School of Medicine. After 11 years as Chairman he established a comprehensive Prenatal Diagnosis and ultrasound Center with a close association with UCLA. This center is an active part of the MFM program at UCLA with Residents and Fellows rotating at the Center.
In addition to his clinical and teaching role, he has held leadership positions for numerous professional societies, including serving as President of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Breast Ultrasound Foundation, Los Angeles Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, Obstetrical and Gynecological Assembly of Southern California, and Pregnancy Qualify Foundation, to name a few. His community service extends to numerous corporate boards of directors, including InSightec, Diagnostic Technologies, and Medicalcue. He is the co-founder and President of the Kenneth Gottesfeld-Charles Hohler Memorial Foundation, serves on the Board of Trustees Touro College, as well as many non-profit organizations. He is the founder and current President of Families of Lone Soldiers and also serves on the executive board of The Michael Levin Lone Soldier Foundation as well as the American Friends of the Shaare Zedek medical center in Jerusalem He is a founder and current Vice President of his Local Synagogue
He has taught scores of fellows over the years, many of whom have gone on to be leaders in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine community, and continues to teach fellows today. Today, he continues to be an internationally and nationally-sought after speaker, a peer reviewer for nearly 20 scientific journals, and continues to be a prolific author with more than 350 peer-reviewed articles published in esteemed journals, such as Obstetrics & Gynecology, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Prenatal Diagnosis, the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, and many others. To his credit, he has also penned 70 chapters in various medical text books and has authored /or co-authored 8 medical textbooks.
