Julia Popowitz - Former Second Attorney at Facebook, and an angel investor in leading startups, Julia is an advisor to startups and an active technology angel investor, with angel investments in Gusto, Lever, BetterUp, Baobab Studios, Kite, Orion Labs, Owlet, Happiest Baby, CodeFights, SafeGraph, AltSchool, Philz Coffee, Tynker, WaitWhat, Signal Fire, Turo (via acquisition of Wheelz), Automatic (acq by Sirius Sat), MissionU (acq by WeWork), MileIQ (acq by MSFT), Locu (acq by GoDaddy), Beme (acq by CNN), Alt12 (acq by Honest Co) and Worklife (acq by Cisco), and later stage investments in Uber, Alibaba (IPO'd), FlipKart (acq by Walmart), Postmates, DocuSign (IPO'd), Survey Monkey (IPO'd), Stripe, Red Ventures and Spotify (IPO'd). Julia began her legal career at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich Rosati. In 2006, Julia joined Facebook as the second attorney and led the commercial transactions team from June 2006 until April 2011. She negotiated numerous deals strategic to Facebook's growth and development, including with Microsoft, Spotify, ABC/Disney, CNN and YouTube. Julia led a team of 9 attorneys, oversaw Facebook's legal work related to its international expansion and operations, and worked on matters related to product and IP law. In her five years at Facebook, Julia was instrumental in scaling the legal team from two people to 40, setting up departmental procedures and infrastructure and hiring and managing outside counsel. Julia received her JD from Harvard Law School in 1997, graduating cum laude, and her BA from UC Berkeley, graduating magna cum laude and phi beta kappa with a degree in Political Science. She is on the National Council of World Wildlife Fund. Previously, she sat on the boards of the Oshman Family JCC, Hebrew Free Loan Association and Hands on Bay Area.
